Stone Soup Celebration

What a joyous time of year :) We began our Stone Soup celebration weeks ago with a big book study on the several different versions of the fable. We read four versions of the traditional Stone Soup, as well as Mouse Soup, Nail Soup, Bone Soup, and Cactus Soup. We compared and contrasted the story and learned about using venn diagrams. We talked about the copyright date and how the pictures and words are influenced by the time period in which the book was written.

Fascinating stuff is happening in first grade :)

On Tuesday we made our own bread. We tripled the traditional recipe and discussed multiplication and fractions (the kids were thrilled when I told them this was third grade material!). We set the table and talked about what we are thankful for. There is so much to be thankful for in our little classroom.

On Wednesday, we had feast day! We started with a stone (just like the story!) and everyone contributed something.

When the pots were boiling around the room, we got to work on making butter.

We finished setting the table...

Made a toast to our school family...

Cut the bread...Added the butter...
And chowed down!

Some ate a little too much...
...But we all enjoyed our own version of a Stone Soup feast!
Happy Thanksgiving, from our family to yours! :)
